What Is Sculptra®
Sculptra® is an injectable used to help restore volume to areas of the face over time creating a soft, natural, more youthful contour. It is made from poly-L-lactic acid, which has been used for many years in surgical procedures as a component of dissolvable sutures.
How It Works
Sculptra® works differently than most “fillers”, it does not provide the quick fix that other dermal fillers may offer. Instead, it restores definition to the face over the course of a few months. It is stimulatory and works with your body’s own components to promote the production of collagen – that helps skin more smooth and youthful.
This treatment offers gradual anti-aging improvements with no downtime and long-lasting results. It can be successfully used to treat sunken cheeks, wrinkles on the lower face or chin, marionette lines and nasolabial folds.
Before injection, Sculptra® is diluted with sterile water then lidocaine to reduce discomfort. Using a fine needle, it is injected deep to the skin. Next, the treated areas are massaged for a few minutes to evenly distribute the Sculptra® suspension.
There is little or no downtime. Most patients are able to immediately return to their normal activities. However, there may be some temporary redness or swelling at the injection sites. This should fade quickly.
Immediately after the treatment, the area of the face that was injected will appear to be “filled out”. However, this temporary fullness will recede in a few days. Collagen production gradually increases over time. You will notice the true volume-enhancing results of the Sculptra® treatment in about 6-8 weeks. Generally, one maintenance treatment a year is needed.
