The various breast surgeries are designed to address a number of issues that may develop in the female breasts, including changes in shape and position. Combining aspects of these procedures, such as adding breast implants to a breast lift, may be the best option for some women.

In general terms, breast surgeries may be broken into three broad categories. Breast lift procedures are used to adjust the shape and position of the breasts without increasing volume. Breast augmentation is performed to increase the size of the breasts, but may not be enough to address drooping breast tissue or nipples that fall below the lower breast crease.

Breast reduction is the removal and reshaping of breast tissue for improved proportion. In many cases, a combination of different aspects of these various procedures may provide the best result.

Breast Implants Often Used to Add Volume to Breast Lift

One of the most common combinations of these procedures is the addition of implants to the traditional breast lift procedure. For many women, the reshaping of existing tissue is needed to improve the drooping shape of the breasts, and adding implants to the procedure gives them the volume that they are looking for.

Convenience is one of the main reasons that women choose to combine these two procedures. Though in some cases there is a recovery period between the breast lift portion and the implant portion of the procedure, they may be performed at the same time in other cases, eliminating the need for two separate surgeries and recovery periods.

By scheduling both procedures together with the same surgeon, it is possible to eliminate much of the paperwork, scheduling and recovery time that goes into planning two separate surgeries. Photo by phalinn on Flickr.
